This is an ink and chalk drawing of the famous tidal island in northern France. It's truly one of the most unique and magical places I've ever been to. The island itself is a tall outcrop of granite that has resisted erosion while the softer rock around it gradually wore away. The famous high tides that cut the island off from the mainland help feed a large, grassy salt marsh  that is a perfect haven for large flocks of wild birds (and grazing sheep).

Mont St. Michel's recorded history goes back to the 8th century when a monastery was built. Since then, the site has played many important historical roles including Christain pilgrimage site, fortress, prison, WWII German outpost and today is a protected UNESCO heritage site. The Abbey located on the pinnacle recently celebrated its 1000 year anniversary in 2023!
